Canterbury Theatre Guild (CTG) was formed in 1977 as a part of Canterbury Council's 150 year celebrations, and we produced our first show in 1978. CTG has continued to produce wonderful shows and introduce many people to the delights of musical theatre from our first concert Christmas Night in December 1978 to our most recent production of Godspell in September 2008.

CTG's first home was at Kingsgrove North High School, then in 1981 we acquired the use of the disused Orion Centre in Campsie as a home, with rehearsals held in the old foyer and sets built and stored in the stalls. 1984 saw the Orion Centre renovated and reopened with CTG's production of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. With increased stature and reputation for excellence the return to the refurbished Orion Centre lifted CTG, as did the acquiring of The Shed in Campsie as a scenery workshop and storage space.

With the move from the Orion Theatre when it became a private function centre, CTG developed strong relationships with local community clubs and schools and we have performed at various venues over the last few years. This includes producing regular shows at Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL and having great success there with Jesus Christ Superstar, The Full Monty and The Boy from Oz. Our most recent show Godspell was performed at Trinity Grammar School in Summer Hill.

In 2008 CTG lost The Shed in Campsie to make way for Canterbury Council redevelopment, but happily found new space at Canterbury Bowling and Community Club, who continue to support and promote us in any way they can.

CTG is an incorporated not for profit theatrical society with a small management committee. We welcome all new members, or if you want to be kept up to date about our next production you can join our free mailing list.
